Thanks for the reply, but it does not solve my purpose, it is just changing the format of the date but not subtracting 30 mins
$ DTE=$(date "+%b %d, %Y %r" --date "now -30 minutes")
$ echo $DTE
Jun 23, 2008 02:43:34 AM
$ date
Mon Jun 23 02:43:49 EDT 2008
i have a log file i need to extract data which has been updated from last 30 mins
plz advise

SYNOPSIS

DESCRIPTION
Procedural style
DateTime date_modify (DateTime $object, string $modify)
Alter the timestamp of a DateTime object by incrementing or decrementing in a format accepted by strtotime(3).
PARAMETERS
o $object
-Procedural style only: A DateTime object returned by date_create(3). The function modifies this object.
o $modify
-A date/time string. Valid formats are explained in Date and Time Formats.
RETURN VALUES
Returns the DateTime object for method chaining or FALSE on failure.
