Can someone please tell me which command to use to determine the available disk space on a given disk device?
I have to write a shell script that compresses files and stores them in a specific location but I am not sure how "conservative" I should be?

I am trying to copy a filesystem from one server to another using rsync over the WAN. As far as I can tell, the two filesystems are identical but for some reason I cannot copy the last file because I keep running out of space.

We have to compress a big data file in unix server and transfer it to windows and uncompress it using winzip in windows.
I have used the utility ZIP like the below.

my log server is completely full with logs.
I have used gzip to compress logs, but as i tried, 7z has a better compression, it saves the half size of my server. I want to uncompress .gz files, then compress them to .7z

I Would like to know the space allocated by adding up all the allocated space to group of filesystems ..
example ,
df -h|grep /db | awk '{ print $4 }' ---> giving me all the used space on the filesystem but need to know the total used space by adding up all the values (3 Replies)

mounted - event signalling that a filesystem has been mounted SYNOPSIS
mounted DEVICE=DEVICE MOUNTPOINT=MOUNTPOINT TYPE=TYPE OPTIONS=OPTIONS [ENV]... DESCRIPTION
The mounted event is generated by the mountall(8) daemon after it has mounted a filesystem. mountall(8) will wait for all services started by this event to be running, all tasks started by this event to have finished and all jobs stopped by this event to be stopped before emit- ting any other events related to this filesystem or continuing with other filesystems depending on this one. The DEVICE, MOUNTPOINT, TYPE and OPTIONS environment variables contain the values of the fstab(5) fields for this mountpoint. EXAMPLE
