sooo... have a guess where all the script's output into STDERR was going...
no wonder the XML was invalid and I couldn't find no errors in the logs - it was all sent to flash. *d'oh*
thanks for the tip on the packet dump, took me a bit to get through, but once i saw the "valid request" line in the sent data it all got clear.
thx for the help. adobe called these scripts not usable for 'productive' use, now i finally know why...
