sorry that i ddint specify clearly... is there any way of either using awk or grep to retrive only the result from the user input?
eg. the user enter "1" and it matches from the data file pid column. It will display only the whole line of the matches.

I wrote a script that reads inputs from user and store in array named "input". The number of elements in the array is not fixed - determined only after user exit the while loop that reads the array values :

The line utility copies one line (up to and including a new-line) from the standard input and writes it on the standard output. It returns
an exit status of 1 on EOF and always prints at least a new-line. It is often used within shell files to read from the user's terminal.
