catalina.sh : need combination from "start" and "run"

heya,

can someone help me with following problem.
i am not sure how far you know the catalina.sh script from tomcat. when i start my tomcat with "catalina.sh run" then the startup-process-output will be printed out on the console, but the tomcat process is started in current shell/session, so it will be stopped when i close my session or type strg+c.
when i start my tomcat with "catalina.sh start" tomcat will be started in own shell/session and all the output is redirected to catalina.out logfile.

now i need a combination of those two parameters. i want to start my tomcat with "start" option because of the own shell, BUT i wanna see the startup-process-output on the console while it's starting up.

i tried with tail -f catalina.out in my script, which worked perfectly but the tail -f is never ending my script, i need to stop it manually with STRG+C .. so i think the solution would be in the catalina.sh script

this is the part which is responsible for that two parameters "run" and "start" from catalina.sh ... i could not find out by myself what to do exactly with it

Code:
elif [ "$1" = "run" ]; then

  shift
  if [ "$1" = "-security" ] ; then
    echo "Using Security Manager"
    shift
    exec "$_RUNJAVA" $JAVA_OPTS $CATALINA_OPTS \
      -Djava.endorsed.dirs="$JAVA_ENDORSED_DIRS" -classpath "$CLASSPATH" \
      -Djava.security.manager \
      -Djava.security.policy=="$CATALINA_BASE"/conf/catalina.policy \

      -Djava.io.tmpdir="$CATALINA_TMPDIR" \

elif [ "$1" = "start" ] ; then

  shift

  if [ "$1" = "-security" ] ; then
    echo "Using Security Manager"

      -Dcatalina.home="$CATALINA_HOME" \
      -Djava.io.tmpdir="$CATALINA_TMPDIR" \
      org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap "$@" start \
      >> "$CATALINA_BASE"/logs/catalina.out 2>&1 &

      if [ ! -z "$CATALINA_PID" ]; then
        echo $! > $CATALINA_PID
      fi
  else
    "$_RUNJAVA" $JAVA_OPTS $CATALINA_OPTS \
      -Djava.endorsed.dirs="$JAVA_ENDORSED_DIRS" -classpath "$CLASSPATH" \

        echo $! > $CATALINA_PID

STARTFLUXBOX(1) Fluxbox Manual STARTFLUXBOX(1)

NAME
startfluxbox - start a fluxbox session SYNOPSIS
startfluxbox DESCRIPTION
startfluxbox is a script which runs the file ~/.fluxbox/startup If it doesn't exist it will be generated. startfluxbox should be started from your ~/.xinitrc if you use startx, or ~/.xsession if you run a display manager, like xdm. FILES
~/.fluxbox/startup This file contains all commands that should be executed before fluxbox is started. The initial file contains helpful comments for beginners. It also starts fluxbox. EXAMPLES
The default ~/.fluxbox/startup is as follows: #!/bin/sh # # fluxbox startup-script: # # Lines starting with a '#' are ignored. # Change your keymap: xmodmap "$HOME/.Xmodmap" # Applications you want to run with fluxbox. # MAKE SURE THAT APPS THAT KEEP RUNNING HAVE AN ''&'' AT THE END. # # unclutter -idle 2 & # wmnd & # wmsmixer -w & # idesk & # And last but not least we start fluxbox. # Because it is the last app you have to run it with ''exec'' before it. exec fluxbox # or if you want to keep a log: # exec fluxbox -log "$fluxdir/log" If you need to start applications after fluxbox, you can change the exec fluxbox line above to something like this: exec fluxbox & fbpid=$! sleep 1 { xsetroot -cursor_name left_ptr -fg white -bg black & ipager & gkrellm2 & } & wait $fbpid So xsetroot, ipager, and gkrellm2 will all be started after fluxbox, after giving fluxbox 1 second to startup. For more details on what else you can do in this script, see sh(1), or the documentation for your shell. AUTHORS
