i am trying to write a script where in it will connect to remote servers and execute remote scripts to fetch some data and ftp it back to a main server. i would like to add a script where it will show some sort of status bar until such time that the expected files have been recieved.

hi all,
in shell script (ksh), how do i write a progress bar ?? i have a script which searches files and while its searching i am currently printing out "." and if it finds what its searching for the script prints out the name of the file e.g

I'm trying to use this code to get a progress bar for cp:
"Can you get cp to give a progress bar like wget?"
But I'm getting these errors:

I have shell script that I am running under Ubuntu as root.
Is it possible to hide the command window and show the user some sort of progress /random progress bar / or other form of GUI interaction?

tracker-status-icon - Miner status and control notification area icon SYNOPSIS
tracker-status-icon DESCRIPTION
tracker-status-icon is a tracker-store(1) notification area icon meant to provide a fast way to check the status of Tracker's data miner and to be able to control those miners with simple commands like pause and resume. When clicking on the icon, a list of data miners is presented. In this list there is an image to the left which indicates the paused or non-paused state. There is also a progress bar which indicates how far through the work load the data miner is. Each miner can be paused/resumed by clicking on it in the menu. From the context menu, tracker-status-icon allows the user to configure the preferences of tracker-miner-fs using the tracker-preferences application. OPTIONS
