Another source: I also recommend the book "Linux Firewalls" from Sams Publishing. It also discusses iptables, but it is several years old so you may not be able to easily find a copy again (but the content still current).
As firewall is usually the first line of defense, I do not recommend just taking iptables commands without understanding what they do.

I have already compiled the kernel and configured it to run as a firewall. My computer has 2 NICs and is on two seperate networks. I can ping both networks from my computer, but workstations on one network can not ping workstations on the other.
