That's the wrong way round to build RAID.
The idea behind RAID is that it can survive disk failure. If you have a disk failure LVM may be trashed first so it can't find the segments that make up the parts of the volume. If RAID is directly on a disk and a few tracks get trashed, RAID can still step over those and recover data either side.

SYNOPSIS
To compile this driver into the kernel, place the following lines in your kernel configuration file:

Alternatively, to load the driver as a module at boot time, place the following line in loader.conf(5):

The iir driver claims to interface with the Intel integrated RAID controller cards, and all versions of the ICP Vortex controllers (including
