That is how the scanf family of functions works. Try another test:

#include<stdio.h>

int main(int argc, char *argv[]){
        char message[80];

        fscanf(stdin,"%s",message);
        fprintf(stdout,"%s\n",message);
}

If you run this, this is what you get:

# ./a.out
this is a test
this

This is how it is implemented. Anyway, if you want to copy the second argument (argv[2]) into the message string, just use strcpy, like this:

#include<string.h>

int main(int argc, char *argv[]){
        int anInteger;
        char message[80];

        sscanf(argv[1], "%d", &anInteger);
        strcpy(message,argv[2]);
        fprintf(stdout,"anInteger: %d\nmessage: %s\n",anInteger,message);
}

This works as you want it to:

anInteger: 2

NAME

       App::Cmd::Command::commands - list the application's commands

VERSION

       version 0.318

DESCRIPTION

       This command plugin implements a "commands" command.  This command will list all of an App::Cmd's commands and their abstracts.

METHODS

   execute
       This is the command's primary method and raison d'etre.	It prints the application's usage text (if any) followed by a sorted listing of
       the application's commands and their abstracts.

       The commands are printed in sorted groups (created by "sort_commands"); each group is set off by blank lines.

   "sort_commands"
	 my @sorted = $cmd->sort_commands(@unsorted);

       This method orders the list of commands into sets which it returns as a list of arrayrefs.

       By default, the first group is for the "help" and "commands" commands, and all other commands are in the second group.
