Round with awk

Hi, I have a problem. Basically I dont know how to use awk. I have a script (below) which works fine. What I want to do is somehow "pipe" in the input say 4.5 and have it give the anwer, I dont want ot have to type it in, since it will be running in a script. Any ideas how to do this???? ... output_reset_rewrite_vars - Reset URL rewriter values

SYNOPSIS
bool output_reset_rewrite_vars (void ) DESCRIPTION
This function resets the URL rewriter and removes all rewrite variables previously set by the output_add_rewrite_var(3) function or the session mechanism (if session.use_trans_sid was set on session_start(3)). RETURN VALUES
Returns TRUE on success or FALSE on failure. EXAMPLES
