This is a rather contested topic within the community; here's my 2 cents:

Certifications are good for one purpose only- sometimes getting through HR hurdles when trying to get a job. Beyond that, it's all experience, experience, experience. My suggestion- get your hands on lots of different things- Linux, Solaris, AIX, Apache, Perl, Korn Shell, Bash, DHCP, MySQL, etc.. Linux is a great place to start. Getting some good fundamentals in TCP/IP would be helpful too.

"IO::Socket::UNIX" provides an object interface to creating and using sockets in the AF_UNIX domain. It is built upon the IO::Socket interface and inherits all the methods defined by IO::Socket. CONSTRUCTOR
new ( [ARGS] ) Creates an "IO::Socket::UNIX" object, which is a reference to a newly created symbol (see the "Symbol" package). "new" optionally takes arguments, these arguments are in key-value pairs. In addition to the key-value pairs accepted by IO::Socket, "IO::Socket::UNIX" provides.
