Use tar to create an archive containing your file/directory structure; e.g. to create an archive called myarchive containing all of the files and directories starting at /home/mydirectory then:

all files in the archive will have absolute paths like /home/mydirectory/1.txt

tar -cvf myarchive /home/mydirectory

or, all files in the archive will have relative paths like ./mydirectory/1.txt

Code:

cd /home
tar -cvf myarchive ./mydirectory

You can also include a specific list of files in the file myfiles.lst (but note that if you specify a directory then the directory will2be included but not the files it contains, this is different from specifying a directory in the first example)

tar -cvf myarchive -L myfiles.lst

Use ftp to transfer to the archive to the other machine and then untar it:

tar -xvf myarchive

This is where the difference between absolute and relative paths becomes important as the restore will extract the files/directories to exsct pathnames if the archive was created with absolute pathnames or relative to your current directory if the archive was created with relative pathnames.
