Newbie welcome page?
Neo, I have seen quite a few newbies on their first post, who don't search the site, asking where to go and how to get started.
This irks me a little as I know it does many that newbies don't understand that they can do some work on their own before asking that question partially because they don't know where to go. (As if they can't read the home page and don't understand that you go to the FAQ when you first visit a new forum site.)
I have a suggestion that shouldn't take too much on your part. How about setting up a "Newbie Welcome FAQ Page". When they login and then again for say their first 5 posts. They will be redirected to a "Newbie" page. It could be as simple as redirecting them to the FAQ page or having an opening letter from you, or simply a one page memo stating the rules and a "how to" to navigate and search.
I don't know how easy/difficult this would be for you, but it certainly would cut down on these posts that ask "Glad to be here and How do I get started?"

From vmstat, the page ins figure is very high, further drill down shows the page ins are from file system and occassional spike in executable page ins.

Just started UNIX today! In our school we use solaris. I just want to know how do I setup Solaris 10 not the GUI one, the one where you have to type the commands like ECHO, ls, pwd, etc... I have windows xp and I also have vmware.

I want to move files from a folder and all its sub folders to one parent folder, they are all .gz files..
there is folder1\folder2\*.gz

I have a pdf file that is being generated using the rwrun command in the shell script.
I then have the lp command in the shell script to print the same pdf file.
Suppose there are 4 pages in the pdf file , I need to print 2 copies of the first page, 2 copies of the second page , then 2... (7 Replies)

If there is an expert that can help:
I have many txt files that are produced from pdftotext that include page breaks the page breaks seem to be unix style hex 0C.
I want to add page numbers before each page break as in : Page XXXX

When I try to look at some of the posts (like "Rookie Grandmother"), I see the thread title and the menu at the bottom, but not the text of the post in the middle. I can see ALL of the posts in the Recent menu, but NONE of the others.

Maven - Installs site.xml into /usr/share/maven-repo. SYNOPSIS
mh_installsite [option]... [pom] [site-file] DESCRIPTION
Installs the site.xml file in /usr/share/maven-repo, at the correct location for Maven. Where [pom] is the location of the POM associated with the site.xml file to install. GroupId, artifactId and version will be extracted from this file. [site-file] is the location of the site.xml to install. OPTIONS
-h --help: show this text -V --version: show the version -p<package> --package=<package>: name of the Debian package which will contain the site file -e<version>, --set-version=<version>: set the version for the artifact, do not use the version declared in the POM file. -r<rules> --rules=<rules>: path to the file containing the rules to apply when cleaning the POM.
