alternate boot path to disk for boot alt
If you have a alternate boot disk or a backup boot disk I would suggest trying that.
If your boot disk does not have an alternate for just such an occasion, I would strongly advise you to get one installed. Also, if possible get a backup boot device that is not used except for instances like this.
However, in this case, without the above resources, restoring from a CD may be your only recourse.

Okay, let me sketch the problem.
I did have a ubuntu / Windows XP dual boot scenario that ran grub as my boot loader. I decided I wanted to try out solaris, so I popped in the opensolaris CD and hit install and told it to format and install over my linux partition.

Greetings friends,
I would like to 'clone' the system/root hard disk with dd. (Solaris 10 on SPARC).
If I understood correctly, 'OK Prompt' can use dd command?
Can it mount drives? (to avoid any possibility of cloning the wrong drive, I'd like to output dd to file)

I installed PowerVM IVM Virtual I/O on P-550 but later found out that the machine isn't activated for CoD VET code for virtualization.
So when booted , it goes into OPEN Firmware

installboot - install bootblocks in a disk partition SYNOPSIS
installboot bootblk raw-disk-device The boot(1M) program, ufsboot, is loaded from disk by the bootblock program which resides in the boot area of a disk partition. The ufs boot objects are platform-dependent, and reside in the /usr/platform/platform-name/lib/fs/ufs directory. The platform name can be found using the -i option of uname(1). The installboot utility is a SPARC only program. It is not supported on the architecture. users should use installgrub(1M) instead. bootblk The name of the bootblock code. raw-disk-device The name of the disk device onto which the bootblock code is to be installed; it must be a character device which is read- able and writable. Naming conventions for a SCSI or IPI drive are c?t?d?s? and c?d?s? for an IDE drive.
