Multiple protected directories

This may have a simple answer, but I have not been able to find it!

I need to have 20 protected directories. Each directory having a unique user with access.
I need to have a main link on the web page that requests the username and password. Once entered it eill send the user to their appropriate directory.

I currently have the directories set up and access set up via .htaccess, but I am not sure how to make the login send the user to their folder.

Main Directory - enter via web browser you are asked for username and login
Directory 1 - user 1 -when user 1 is entered at login they are sent to this derectory
Directory 2 - user 2 -when user 2 is entered at login they are sent to this derectory
etc...
