here is my latest piece of code:

Code:
essb_load_app=MS_INDR
essb_app=MS_IND

awk -v q=\' -v essb_app=$essb_app -v loadapp=$essb_load_app '{for (I=1;I<=NF;I++) if ($I == essb_app) print "alter application loadapp add variable "$(I+1) " " q $(I+2) q ";"}' $securitypath/MaxL_Export.txt >> "$ms_scripts/"$essb_load_app"_VARIABLE_CREATE.mxl"

I need loadapp to display the correct value which is MS_INDR. It's just displaying itself. Thanks!

I figured it out, I just needed to move around the double quotes. it was an oversight on my part.

Thank you!
The quoting is still dangerous. Your expansion of $essb_load_app is unquoted and might not work properly if the expansion contains any IFS characters. The following would be safer:
Code:
Code:
essb_load_app=MS_INDR
essb_app=MS_IND

awk -v q=\' -v essb_app="$essb_app" -v loadapp="$essb_load_app" '{for (I=1;I<=NF;I++) if ($I == essb_app) print "alter application loadapp add variable "$(I+1) " " q $(I+2) q ";"}' "$securitypath/MaxL_Export.txt" >> "$ms_scripts/${essb_load_app}_VARIABLE_CREATE.mxl"
