Solaris and windows

Hi All,

If i install windows xp and solaris on the same machine(x86 platform) can both be running at the same time, even if i use vmware or virtual pc like that.
Can I able to configure internet for solaris if i dont have a router and i directly connect to internet through cable modem.

Can i able to access my solaris machine from the same machine from windows platform using putty ?

Thanks,

Yes if Solaris supports that modem (and windows doesn't use it).

Yes if you configure a (virtual) network.

Thanks a lot for your quick reply.

I have some more quesitons.

1. Is Vmware - full version available for free download
2. How can i configure a virtual network as i dont have much knowledge in networking stuffs.
3. Do i need to create a FAT or NTFS partition for solaris installation? i already have a windows partition do i need to format that and split that partition or can i use partition manager or similar to create partition for solaris.

Please advise.

Thanks,

I think there's an eval version available. Just go to their website Smilie

Vmware itsefl allows you to do it. It will ask you when you configure your virtualmachies if you'd like your hosts to talk each other. It's easy.

You will be presented with, at least, two options:
- Install your virtual machines on a file
- or use free disk.
Solaris uses it's own file system, neither FAT nor NTFS Smilie

Yo will need two things:
- Check if you can fit your solaris on your disks
- Install As if it was a "real machine". For this, just follow SUN's instructions.

yea u can run various OS in VMware

, at the configuring your VM u should set the network type as bridging, then u can work like a individual OS and can connect to that OS using telnet from windows and interconnect can also be done if windows/solaris/linux is running
u can ssh into solaris etc.

u can try the eval version, but u should have atleast 512MB of memory to run VM with OS, since its going to run a one more OS on same system
