Final solution
This turned out to be a noob/display issue.
dladm show-phys
LINK MEDIA STATE SPEED DUPLEX DEVICE
net0 Ethernet up 0 unknown vnet0
net1 Ethernet up 0 unknown vnet1
net2 Ethernet up 0 unknown vnet2
zone1/net2 Ethernet up 0 unknown vnet2
net3 Ethernet up 0 unknown vnet3
zone1/net3 Ethernet up 0 unknown vnet3
where Device=vnet0 =/= your vnet you named vnet0 in the control LDOM and assigned to this LDOM. it DOES equal the device # assigned to your vnet and is LABELLED vnet for your convenience/confusion
NOTE: don't name your vnets "vnetX" it WILL confuse you.

Can the same be done with Guest LDoms while remaining at the control LDOM level?
