Data Converting a .job file

I have acquired the electronic files for my husband's book from his publisher. The files are written in a .job file. I cannot open them. Is .job a UNIX file? And is there anyway that I can open them with Microsoft XP? I am definitely a novice.

I am not an XP expert but this page implies that .job files are for the Microsoft Task Scheduler.

Data .job files from CD

Thanks for your reply. I looked at the web page but these files came to me from a major book publisher in the US. I have them on a CD but I cannot open them. Any suggestions?

Are the .job files the only files on the CD? (Is EVERY files extension .job?)

When you double click on the file to open it, and Windows complains, select "Select program from list", and then choose "NOTEPAD". Does that yield any useful information?

Cheers

If you are running on a *nix platform, try using the file command on them. It'll give you what the filetype is.
example:

file dot.job

example 2

file Harmon_buys_QNX.html
Harmon_buys_QNX.html: HTML document text

file Bookcase.bc
Bookcase.bc: Zip archive data, at least v2.0 to extract

some results looking up the extensions produced;
Vector graphics file created by conversion of a IMG file (QuestVision)

Data I tried...

I downloaded the patch from Microsoft. Notepad did not open the file. I'm going to call the publisher tomorrow. As far as I know I don't have a *nix platform. And, yes, all the files are .job. Thank you. We paid a lot of money for those files. I'd take any suggestions you may have.
