Benjamin Fournier wrote a
plug-in for the graphics application PhotoFiltre Studio that inspired me, since I also happen to use the XnView Shell Extension and have seen what it can do, to look into the possibility of getting Windows XP Pro SP3's Explorer file navigator to "hazard a guess at" the format of a file making use of a dll file which contains the same data used by the aforementioned shell extension. Is there some sort of patch, bridge file, or service enabler that would allow XP to do this?
Where would this be useful? Think Thumbnail mode or the automatic preview available to the right of the list and icon modes etc., when a file is selected.
FYI for those who've never used it: the XnView Shell Extension
does look inside a file you right-click on; if it happens to find image-format data at or near the top of the codestream, it will look further and cull as much information as it can, even an EXIF thumbnail should one be present, to display in its "block" of the Windows Explorer context menu.
Is there some way to enable XP to do the same when this .dll is situated in the right location? Right now my only copy is next to M. Fournier's extension in the plugins folder for PhotoFiltre Studio, but I could certainly copy it or extract a freshly-downloaded copy to any other place required.
Hope someone can suggest something.
