Question Which Notebook to buy

Hi Im not sure that i post that Thread here on the right place but i hope someone can help me.
Im searching for a new Notebook with Linux or Unix as system.
Im looking for a Notebook with the following components:
Intel Core 2 for mobile
min 2GB RAM
15 " Display none reflective
ATI or NVidia Graphiccard.

I want to use the Laptop for programming, running an VMWare Server and playing my old Civ.4.

I have also thought about a MACBook Pro.
Hope to get some tips.

Greetings

Don't get hp dv6xxx

I have been trying to install ubuntu on my hp laptop. Lots of problems with the drivers. So I don't recommend this particular model of the HP line for ubuntu.

SPARC Solaris notebooks market 1992 to 2007 history in the SPARC Product Directory

It costs a leg and hand.

But I'd imagine if you flip this open and start playing unix commands when flying on business class all the pretty airline stewardess will gawk at what you doing curiously.

I strongly advise that you but an machine with an nVidia card. The state of the current ATI driver for the FireGL and X1xxx cards could at best be desctribed as betaware, and is very limited in terms or xRandR support, while also closed source, the nVidia driver is stable and functional.

Although intel has open-sourced its video card drivers, so their hardware may be well supported in the next few years. Right now though, I agree with reborg - nVidia is the way to go.

I use an old PowerBook G4 and find that a UNIX based OS makes System Administration very efficient. And Mac OS X is pretty Smilie Seriously though, it performs well for a PPC and my experience with the dual-core Intel machines (I have a Mac Mini) has proved them to be more than capable of running VMware Fusion for virtualisation.
