What else do you do?

I know we all do Unix. What else do you do? What hobbies do you have?
I like trekking, primarily in
the Sahyadri mountains. These are around 100-odd km from Mumbai, India. There are a lot of old (16th-17th century) mountain-top forts, which make for excellent climbing.

Unfortunately, I'm in Singapore since June 2006, so no treks since then. Smilie

Its been a while since a new thread started here, so...

My hobbies are: reading, playing classical guitar and - foremost - playing strategy games.

I have a deep (alas unanswered) love for chess, play bridge at tournament level and like about every other game where luck is no factor but strategic thinking is. Perhaps you may find a bakunin on some chess-, bridge- or online-game-site. Chances are that is me.

My main hobby is playing Magic: The Gathering. I host a weekly game that has been continuously running for over 8 years. I've taught at least 15 people how to play, and the size of our group has fluctuated from 4 to 8 regular players over the years with a total of about 12 who show up on occasion at least. I also am a huge Minnesota Wild hockey fan - usually attending 1/4 to 1/3 of their home games each year in person and catching almost all the rest on TV.

I used to be very into Chess. In fact, I narrowly missed making the top 50 most active tournament players (in terms of rated games played) in the U.S. during the late '80s. My girlfriend at the time actually made the top 50 list for women by attending most of the tournaments I played in with me. But once I got to grad school and started my career I didn't have time to study/practice/play enough to maintain my strength any more so I mostly gave up. However, my wife found an amateur chess league in our city so I joined a team last month. Maybe I'll end up back playing chess seriously again after dipping my toe back in the water that way. . . .

I also golf, bowl, and play a little electric guitar - all very badly Smilie

I'm the sort of person who likes to give anything I think looks interesting a chance.

Currently I don't have much free time, but mostly I like things that keeps me active. I play hurling* and basketball. In the past I also played football*, rugby and volleyball to a fairly high competitive level but a nasty knee injury a couple of years back has forced me to cut back.

I am also a bit fan of water and sail, powerboat and windsurf when I can, as well as being a very keen diver which, in terms of the amount of time invested, is probably my main hobby.

I will add my name to the list of guitarists, and can also play valved brass instruments and piano though currently I do not have either.

At some time in the not too distant future I hope to have time to get my pilots license.

Computer

Seems like a good chance to introduce myself Smilie I've been reading these forums for a while, usually as a result of a google search for something. Figured it was time I made an account and started to 'give back' a little.

So howdie all!

Hobbies for me have taken a bit of a back seat for now as I've just started a business on the side and am currently running it and doing my day job too -> not that much time left in the 24hrs for sleeping let alone playing Smilie

Before that (and hopefully after things settle down), I have been learning to fly a hang glider (I'd recommend this to all, it's an amasing rush), open circuit scuba diving (SSI / PADI AOW) and hanging out on the beach with my two dogs (a Golden Retriever and a Newfoundland) Smilie

I follow Dexter, Boston Legal, Stargate Atlantis and The Unit on TV, can enjoy a good multiplayer computer game occasionally, but never really enjoyed chess much Smilie

Trekking/Tramping/Hiking is nice with the dogs but otherwise doesn't do lots for me, I'm fairly fit but clearly have too short an attention span so start to get bored :/ I can certainly appreciate the appeal though, just that it's not really for me.
