What is on Your Mind?

I am certain that everyone has heard of this guy. I did recognize him from the outset, but there is no fun in it if you don't have to guess, so no answer from me.

I believe that he claimed he was digging the tunnels to talk to the elves that he found in them, who he claimed were responsible for his success.

I'll give one more hint, seeing as we have a (somewhat) related thread in the C programming forum.

At the age of ten he build a device to convert punched tape into Morse code.

I hadn't heard that before! I guess that I must retract my "They didn't... serve any purpose" remark. Thanks for clarifying this issue. But see, stuff like this is why I don't lose any sleep over the fact that I'm nowhere near this guy in raw intellect. Yes, it would be very cool to totally rock the world the way that he did, but I really don't wanna dig a bunch of freaking tunnels so I can talk to some elves. And I'm not gonna wear that suit either.

I put in some tough googling for that, but what clinched it was "one of his hobbies was digging tunnels on his estate". Checked on wikipedia for confirmation, and here is the answer: Seymour Cray.
