What is on Your Mind?

Unfortunately*, in my experience, with the virtualization and the cloud computing,
the pure "sysadmin" job begins to loose ground.
Create a VM template and clone it n times ... The ITs just don't need all those sysadmins nowadays.
No complex SPARC or PA/RISC clusters, only x86 Linux machines that are relatively easier to set up, manage and administer.
As I said, this is just my personal experience.

* Actually, I'm not sure if this is good or bad. It's just the way the IT world evolves here.

On a side note, unfortunately, things are little different in India. I hardly seen any system admin of age more than 40 years. And if there is any, their Salaries will not increase, which is really important in this country unlike other places. If they demand, management will push them to move them on different profile like managerial position, team leaders, system architect OR they should be in any product specific company or specific product/tool expert, then they can survive. I know, this is not good and pure technical people do not want to leave technical field, but this is they way it goes here. Even socially also, it is clearly expected that techie should move on after age of 35-40 or else there is a question "You are still on same salary and still system admin ?" This is surprisingly and sadly a true situation. What redoulov said is also true, Keeping that things in mind, everybody wants to adopt new technology or tool which can boost up their profile and keep them on a step up than others.

I don't think any of us "non Indians' can speak to the culture of India... and frankly it is a bit unfair to ask us our opinion, and then caveat our replies with "well, this is India and the culture is different..."

Maybe you should have started the thread with that information, because it is a kinda waste of our time to reply to you, in earnest, and then you fall back on the "well, the culture of India is different".. as a reply to us.

I'm nearly inclined to close the thread after reading that reply, sorry to tell you.

Sorry Neo, I didn't mean that way. And all of your replies were really helpful and never wasted. I still have time to work on my skills and as suggested picking up on one programming language.
What I replied (or I should say posted) was a side note, came in my mind.

Honestly, if you want to discuss this topic in the context of "Indian IT Culture" please do so; but just please be clear in your title and in your post, from the beginning, that you are discussing your post in the context of Indian culture.

Please don't ask a general question where people are making an earnest effort to help you, then throw people a curve ball by adding the cultural aspect an the end of the discussions.

If you want to discuss in a cultural content, by all means, do so; but please start the thread that way so people can know what discussion they are getting into.

I agree, I should have been posted complete context in my initial post. Yes, I wanted to have suggestion from "Indian IT Culture" prospective. If I do not get further response here, I will post new thread with complete info. Hope that should be ok.
