Question Security Clearance In DC!!! What To Expect?!?!?

I am a cleared Technical Support Specialist seeking a Jr Network/Sys Admin position in the DC area (from Atlanta) within the next few months. I'd like to make it worth my while to network with anyone that can provide valuable insight for someone like myself being new to the area. This is the first time in my career where I would be marketing my security clearance and honestly I'm not sure what to expect. So many questions too. Where can I go to research how much cleared professionals are paid? What do I expect in an interview with a clearance that's different from an interview without a clearance? Is there an abundance of cleared professionals in the DC area? If so, is job competition fierce? Are there any other places us cleared professionals can go online/offline to network? These are just a few of the questions that run through my mind regularly since I don't know exactly what to expect when I get there. Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!!! Smilie

Been there.....

Hello,
I dont live or work there, but I have. Your clearance better be high if ya know what i mean, cause practially every sa in the dc/nova area has one. but there are ample jobs, check this site...
http://www.clearancejobs.com

you might have some luck there. Also, check their job fair section, thats how I got my current job.

Power Agree and Disagree

I'd respectfully disagree with smoores. Not everyone in DC has a clearance. In fact, there are a huge number of folks in that area that desperately want one, but can't get one. Even a Secret clearance is of high value in DC. It will definitely get your foot in the door whereas most people can't even get that far. I would agree with smoores that http://www.clearancejobs.com is the best place to go to find Unix or other IT jobs in DC that require a clearance. Good luck!

I agree with Adm70sa. Sure the DC area has a lot more cleared people than other areas. But there are not enough to go around. My sister is trying to hire cleared people for a large contract but she can't find enough. Her company is not bidding on contracts that they would like because they know that they cannot hire the people. My sister tells me that cleared programmers who know java are in particular demand.
