Smilieperl,python,ruby..which one is the best language...?

all are welcomed to comment but i would request to the SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS who have yaers of programming,scripting experience to comment...site admins plz i am looking forward to see your comments also ...SmilieSmilie

What the "best language" is always depends what you're doing in it. There's things that're one-liners in shell that're difficult to do in other languages, and vice versa.

Exactly.... systems and languages are not "better" than others; they are different and operate in different environments. Often, the choice of a language or tool is based on culture and not on technology.

Anyway, as pludi pointed out, these types of "what is better than this or that" threads are against forum culture and rules here.

I am trying to find a way to check the current status of a file. Such as some cron job processes are dependent on the completion of others. if a file is currently being accessed / modified or simply open state I will wait until it is done being processed before attempting the next process on that...
