On top of that, the mere fact that new versions of desktop managers essentially forking the GNOME desktop are being released, says something about the acceptance level of GNOME3. Cinnamon, Unity, to name the top two.

Cinnamon is not a fork of GNOME3; it is only a fork of the GNOME Shell.
