Lightbulb Foursquare

I'm interested to know if any forum members are playing Foursquare?

If so, please post your thoughts about it.

As for me, I think Foursquare really has great potential as a social game over the commercial landscape; I've started to play Foursquare a bit, and find it interesting from a both a social and commercial perspective.

Anyone here playing it besides me?

Update:

We now have a forums page on Foursquare:

https://foursquare.com/unixlinux

We have plans to build out the following Foursquare capability for forum users:
  • Create a new custom forum user field for 4Q user id
  • Create forum plugin app to check in to Foursquare for logged in forum users, and also update history (posts) and also issue badges (see next steps below)
  • Create badges based on Bit Count, so the more Bits, the more advanced the badge, from Novice to Expert to Guru.....
  • Users get forum badges based on Bits count automatically
  • These badges will also be displayed in user profile

If you have anymore Foursquare "game layer" ideas, please let us know in this thread.

Update: After talking to Foursquare, the cost of having our own custom badges is cost prohibitive (over $25K USD a month). So, we have to "tone down" our ideas (see strike outs above) to:
  • Create a new custom forum user field for 4Q user id
  • Create forum plugin app to auto check in to Foursquare for logged in forum users, and also update history (posts)

Well, we tried Smilie

Well, after spending hours with Foursquare and digging into their API, I've had to strike out every original idea earlier in this thread Smilie

... back to the drawing board ... Smilie

This is the first time I have seen the word "foursquare" used for anything other than the game we used to play many years ago in high school.

In that game, we used tape to mark off an 8 foot square on a flat surface, and then taped the square in half in each direction to make four squares (thus the name). One player stood at each corner and when the ball (typically a volleyball) bounced into his square, he had to let it bounce exactly once and then hit into one of the other squares. If he missed, he was out and the next person in line took his place (or sometimes we kept score). Spiking wasn't allowed.

A simple fun game. I loved it. Haven't played it since high school. Now someone has even appropriated the name. Sigh.

Foursquare is actually very interesting; but of course I'm talking about the online version at:

I enjoyed it briefly, but ran into some very unexpected and very disturbing stalking trends in a matter of days...
