No netspeak please...

We have sections where you can ask nearly anything you want. If your problem is a linux problem, ask there. If your problem is a HP-UX one, ask there. It makes sense to separate things by OS because the answers and troubleshooting steps are completely different depending on what your OS is -- and we want people thinking about what system they have, so we don't have to prompt them repeatedly to explain trivial things like their OS and version and shell piecemeal. If they're uncertain, we even have a general purpose 'hardware' forum.

This may not be immediately obvious to a new user though, I suppose. How would you suggest this forum encourage and show users where to post?

Joel Spolsky's StackOverflow is blasted over twitter feeds via their StackExchange site.

Yes, StackExchange is an aggregator of some far-flung topic sites, but two important points to note from StackOverflow's success: 1) the format is somewhat more conducive to percolating the right answer(s) to the top (as opposed to the sometimes epically linear progression that can be found on this site), 2) they achieve the word of mouth by broadcasting some of their hottest topics for newer audiences.

Of course, Joel rolled his own forum software (I think) and Unix.com is leveraging a package I've seen elsewhere for lawnmower repair sites, but the twitter feed option might expand the field of potential traffic.

.02 invoice will be mailed at the of the month... :0)

Okay...let's say percolates the most "right-ish" answers to the top...

Did not know that. Nicely done...and without my input even! :0)

How about an Area51-type of venue? Or is that what this would be...?

There is a distinct lack of UNIX specific podcasts (Not counting Linux here) or podcasts pertaining to System Administration in general.

I think unix, linux and GNU need good advertisement.

The 99% of my partners doesn't even know what is Linux. When you talk about it they think they are too newbies to make Linux to work.

I think the community must show simple linux-based systems (like Ubuntu, Debian...) as they are: simple. Even more simpler than Windows (which is the most used OS out there).

Just in the same line than Matrixmadhan

Maybe it would be great to have a place where we could find some technical article about various subjects, (but mainly architecture and concept detailed explainations as well as tech tip or caveats).

But ok ... I know ... google is my friend ... Smilie
