My Nokia has a (mini) USB port and I love it.

Just yesterday I backed up my entire phone, including recent photos, music and movie clips, contacts and more to my hard drive.

But for me, the #1 reason I have a Nokia smart phone instead of an iPhone is I don't like the "Apple Lock In" business model. The #2 is that I like a full QUERTY keyboard on my phone.

The iPad is still interesting, but the more I read about it in the reviews, the more I feel like it is "more of the same" Apple "Lock Me In to Apple" and "Lock Me Out of the Rest of the World" which I really dislike.

For example, when Apple refused Google Voice on the iPhone, this was really wrong and smacks of the old days when Microsoft did the same as part of their core business mode.

Luckily, OSX has a Darwin/BSD core....... Smilie

Given all the functionality they list I would say, yes, it is indeed a PC wannabe, much like the internet appliances of yesteryear but with a few new features nailed on the side and made much prettier.

And it is not a small notebook.
There are two things stopping it from being that: 1) A real OS 2) A USB port. The hardware is plainly capable of both, but you're not going to get it...

And of course Apple is a bad Company luring people into buying their beautiful products, and soon after everybody has bought them they are mean enough to throw improved versions onto the market. This is really awful. No other company treats their customers like that.
You missed the actual point entirely. They continuously release improved versions of products that have no useful expansion capabilities. Music players without card slots. Fauxputerphones without USB ports, phone or texting capability, multitasking, or drivers that can extended or revised by anyone but Apple. You get what they want you to get, and they want repeat customers, so they make products that, once they've outlived their design lifetimes, are garbage.

I wish I could still use my 2001 iBook G3, but it has no touch screen.
I'm not talking about notebooks. If you really can't use it though, send it to me. Smilie

I have voted yes after a while. I am an absolute ebook freak and so I will use it mostly as an ebook reader - that has the option to be used as a webinterface if need be. And what is in my opinion a big advantage against conventional ebook readers - and I had them all Smilie
I know I will not buy it right away - I never do - but I know I will buy it after a while as I bought almost all apple products after every one else had them already for ages - this included a macbook, various ipods, and finally even an iphone - I always had been critical and was 'against the crap' - but as soon as I got hold of them and had a while to play around, I tended to love them. So I am sure the same thing will happen to me again with the ipad.
I might be weird but - I have notebooks that can do everything - but I just don't need all this everything. I don't need to hop between applications. If I want to read a book, I want to do exactly this. I dont want to reply to emails or quickly surf the internet. If I want to do this - I do it afterwards. And hey I am a girl and native capable to multitask - I just don't want it Smilie

zxmaus, I have to suggest strongly that you try one out first. One of the major plus point for a classical ebook reader is that the display is not so brightly illuminated and somewhat paper-like, making it much easier to read for an extended period of time.

I am quite happy to read from the screen of an ebook reader but reading from any kind of computer like screen really doesn't work for me. My eyes get tired, and I fall into the classical "no blink" problem.

If the iPad had a USB port and it would let me replace the battery, I would consider it. But stuff like that is way too much to ask of Apple. Apple's attitude is amazing... they make Microsoft seem like an Open Systems company. I stay away from Apple products.

Nope. My own sister is crazy about macs, she just goes on and on about mac this & mac that, mac is so fast blah blah blah. I tell her it's running unix operating system it doesn't register on her. I ask her how do I get into the unix prompt and she doesn't have a clue what am I talking about.

I've seen many people buy mac products, My 68year old aunt has an IPOD recently, she showed it off to my mother during the new year get together and now she is pestering me to get her one of those pesky things ridiculous!!

It's becoming more of an envy cool factor thing, "I have it you but don't kind of crap" yes mac products do have some sex appeal but I don't need none of those stinkin pesky things.

..... And no flash support...... What's up with that Apple? Single tasking little OS on the iPad can't handle Adobe Flash?!
