Volunteer Work When Out of a Computer Job?

I need opinion from other !

I finished high school for computer technician few months ago and now I can not find a job because I do not have any experience with servers , I know basic staff about Linux and Unix and Windows better (used three 4 years) (this is way I registered here at unix.comSmilieSmilieSmilie)

Know my situation: no job , free time , learning wish , unix.com

Now my question : Is good choice to volunteer for some time to get some experience or is better to stay at home and learn on "non" real things!

You could build a server, for example a Linux server, from scratch.

Then, you could configure you own web application.

You might even create a new web application for yourself or someone else who needs one.

Best is to learn by doing a project and if you are not working, build your own project.

If you don't have any ideas, let me know and I will instruct you on what to build and test, no problem.

Hammer & Screwdriver Volunteer?

You might be able to volunteer, however I am not sure that you would be able to volunteer unix skills to any organization.
As Neo said, determine a project for yourself to improve your own skills.
Another option is to practice by answering questions on this forum - in essence, solving a lot of small projects while improving your skills.

Once you are more confident in your skills, there are websites that specialize in connecting project requests to programmers. Seek them out and then apply your skills. In the internet world, most companies with data problems will not care who creates the solution or how old they are, only that a correct solution is provided.
