ok, here's what i've got so far:

my linux box DOES NOT see this thing at all when connected via USB. also, what you said in that regard does make sense: i'll have to figure something else out as far as an install (it does have a SD port...)

on the back of the gps unit, it says that it is running Windows CD Core 5.0 (also that it is using DestinAtor as a map source, which i already knew)

hey, like i said: i've got a ton of time on my hands. why not give it a shot? i'm sure someone out there can help out, and maybe i'll document the process, and if it's successful, help out the other poor buggers that bought this piece of crap

anyways, if you can't help further, that's cool: thanks for trying; i appreciate it and that's why i use these forums, because i haven't met any jerks yet and most are willing to at least try to help

It's probably running on the ARM platform, then. It may just be a slightly-modified PDA. Which makes it slightly more possible since Linux has been ported to ARM-based PDA's in the past, though there's still extraordinary problems figuring out what devices are present and needed then debugging them and bludgeoning them into operation.

well, if that's the case i will have an easier time figuring this out...thanks! obviously, like you said previously, i'm gonna have to take this thing apart. when i do this i'll make sure to post pics up somewhere, like you said: then people who are "in the know" will hopefully be able to give me an idea of what needs to be done. when you say "ARM" platform, do you mean the chip used? forgive me, but I haven't researched that yet, just curious if when I take it apart it will become apparent.

again, thanks for the help

Yeah, ARM is the processor. Or XSCALE if it's a newer ARM.
