That is not needed. Given your sample and the regularity of your records, the integer test was fine, and the previous code worked fine with me, no further effort was needed. Anyway, assuming field two contains only integers, I get the same desired output from this:

Your current condition $2!="0" means any string different from string 0, so string ABCD in field two of the footer/header is different from string 0, and field 8 is non-existent (null) satisfying both conditions, that's why the record is printed two times.
A good regular expressions online tutorial would be really helpful to see the differences, check also the gawk manual on regexps.

i would get xyz
But i want as :

The above command substituted "/t" not tab in the place of pipe.
