laying out partitions as part of install

Hello all.

I have a Sun Ultra 10 that I installed Solaris 10 on. For the most part things were working fine, but I wanted to layout my partitions (slices) differently (along with some other things) and so decided to do a fresh OS install.

At the memory initialization I pressed Stop + A and got the OK prompt. Put in my install CD and typed boot cdrom.

The install process went along and the box is working. However during the installation, I was not prompted on how I wanted to layout the filesystems/slices.

During the GUI portion of the install I went with the "custom" install thinking that would enable me to lay out the slices, however the installation did not prompt for that.

So I restarted the process and went with a "default" installation and was not prompted about the slice layout.

Is there some command/switch/procedure that is used either before or during the installation to enable you to customize the disk slices?

Thanks,
~Robert

It seems that you missed the part where you can modify the vtoc. During the installation process you will be asked to select which disk to install solaris on. Then it should ask to preserve data and if memory serves correctly it will ask if you want to modify the vtoc. Selecting yes will allow you to modify the disk layout assuming you selected no to preserve data.

I recommend reading:

Hope that helps
