DHCP update DNS ?

Hi all,

I'm in the dark about this. I have setup a dhcp server and a DNS server. I'm confuss as to how to have DNS auto update any new clinet that the dhcp has given an ip address for. Can this be done. I think that I'm missing something in the configuration of DHCP. I was told that when a DHCPD assign an IP address to a machine it will forward a request to update the DNS server. Is this correct? Because it does not seem to be working for me. My machine are getting an Ip address and my DNS server is working with the hosts named that I have enter into it's table. I'm running a mix envoriment. The DNS server is a Solaris 8 machine, the DHCP server is a Redhat 7.2, dhcp clients are windows machines and I use static IP address for my Linux and Sun machines. Thanks in Advance.

Not sure this will help or not -

Check out the answers to the questions posted at Acme Byte & Wire

Microsoft only has answers if you are using their dhcp/dns: MS

If you are using the default version of Bind that came with Solaris 8, you would probably be better off upgrading it - you can dowload the latest at ISC
