Command not working in HP-UX

Hi All,

This command is not working in HP-UX os.

$ ps -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -k1 -r | head -11
ps: illegal option -- o
usage: ps [-edaxzflP] [-u ulist] [-g glist] [-p plist] [-t tlist] [-R prmgroup] [-Z psetidlist]
Usage: sort [-AbcdfiMmnru] [-T Directory] [-tCharacter] [-y kilobytes] [-o File]
[-k Keydefinition].. [[+Position1][-Position2]].. [-z recsz] [File]..

Please help me on this command..Please suggest me the correct the syntax of the command...

In other words, you are using syntax for GNU ps, not HP UX ps.

Hi,

Could you please tell me which command can we use instead of

ps -eo ..

what is the command in HP-UX
please help me..

In HPUX you need to use the special (but poorly documented) "UNIX95" environment variable to get the normal Berkeley "ps" syntax.
BTW. Your "sort -k1" gives a syntax error.

There are two similar ways of getting the right effect.
1) Precede the command with UNIX95=<space> . The space is important.

UNIX95= ps -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -r | head -11

2) Precede the command with UNIX95=yes. The export is for completeness.

export UNIX95=yes;ps -eo pcpu,pid,user,args | sort -r | head -11
