splitting shell window

hi

is it possible to split the shell window in two or more parts like split command vi?

i am using putty as telnet client.

Hi.

There is a GNU utility called screen. It is not trivial to use, but can partition a screen into regions. That feature is only one small part of screen. Many people use screen to handle multiple processes. There is an article at Hack and / - Do the Splits that includes a brief mention of screen, and a more focused article at GNU Screen: an introduction and beginner's tutorial || kuro5hin.org

The man page is quite long, but is useful once you have tried screen a few times.

You can Google for other pages of information about screen, but the term screen is very common, so you get many hits. If you do that, include other words to limit the search.
