DHCP Problem
I just installed Mandrake (Caldera) Verion 7.0 on my PC. The problem is I can not grab the and IP from my Router (running DHCP Server). I went to the root# and type linuxconf and it pops up for me the GUI, I have select "Enable" and "DHCP" but when I in Root#, type "ifconfig" it shows me the IP address as 127.0.0.1 (loopback addr). Anyone has any advise ?

Please post the details about your DHCP server. A DHCP server must have permissions to allocate IP addresses to DHCP clients. What is your DHCP server? Who controls that server (router)?

I used an Asante' Router. I have other PC running Windows 98 (in the same LAN), and it is able to grab an IP from in DSL Router.
Before, after I installed that this Linux on the same PC, I could get on internet automatically and working fine. Then I wiped out my HardDrive and re-installed same linux again, but this time ran out of luck.
My NIC Card: 3Com.

Did you manually configure the interface (with ifconfig) and successfully ping the DHCP server (with your current config) ?

I have never config manually.
I just use "Basic network Configre" and "Enable" DHCP by the GUI, but didn't work.

Well, to troubleshoot you are going to need to learn to set up the interface manually using the ifconfig and the route command. When DHCP does not work properly, this is how to trouble shoot the problem in a systematic way.

You can easily do this by read the man pages:

Alternatively, you could purchase a good book on TCP/IP Network Administration, like this classic O'Reilly book:
