substr of a file
Hi, i'm a newbie and i don't know unix...
I'm a dba oracle.
I need to cat the content of a file like this:

> ps -eaf|grep pmon

oracle 221422 1 0 Sep 17 - 7:20 ora_pmon_ORCL
oracle 405626 1 0 Sep 17 - 8:39 ora_pmon_ORCL1
oracle 491534 1 0 Sep 17 - 7:03 ora_pmon_ORCL2
oracle 495866 1 0 Sep 17 - 7:12 ora_pmon_ORCL3

and create a file with only this:

ORCL
ORCL1
ORCL2
ORCL3

Please help me.

Try:

ps -eaf|grep pmon | sed 's/.*_\(.*\)/\1/'

thank you

this command add also the line:

oracle 1450062 1061022 0 15:57:25 pts/3 0:00 grep pmon

How can i remove it?

Use "grep -v" to invert the search: "grep -v something" searches for lines NOT containing "something", hence:

ps ... | grep .... | grep -v grep

The last command in the pipeline is cutting the grep-line itself
