snmpd is Simple Network Mail Protocol daemon. First, you may check your snmpd daemon and stop and restart it. Then monitor for messages.

When you restart it do this:
If you have the "-logfile option" would create a new log file separate from your other catchall log file. So you can more easily monitor this.

I would suggest read the man page as well for a deeper understanding of this daemon's options.

If you don't really need smpd i would disable it. It is our company standard to not use snmp unless for ServiceGuarded boxes (HPUX)

here is a link that may help describe what your error messages mean.

serviceguard is strictly an HPUX thing. IT is basically a cluster of boxes that have fail-over capability. If one box goes down then they will pass all workload to the next box in the cluster. It is for very High Avaliability applications.

Other vendors call it something else. Find out if you really need snmp or not. Most environments I have seen don't need it. It can be a security hole.

1) sendmail is just like sendin emails to other people but sendmail is different in that it is automated and the mails are send to machines?

2) the mail content is about info of the machines?
