So I copied everything but I still dont get the last two columns could it be something on my end. You obviously were able to do it, what could I be doing wrong.

I'm lost. I've check everything and copied your work exactly. Could it be unix. Probably a stupid question.

It could be you are on solaris running the crippled version of awk, Try using nawk instead.

there is no nawk, but there is a gawk, and i tried that but nothing is doing. I am using a government super computer called cobalt. I think it uses SGI propack 5. I dont know anything else.

I just ran the code on Linux - it works there as well. I would guess you have a broken awk implementation.

and... you are positive that absolutely zero differences between the code posted here and what you ran? use the diff command to see.

Nothing should show up.

I ran the diff function and nothing did show up. Is there a fundamental thing that I should have done, realizing I am clueless.
