perhaps a reason from a programming sense to be restrictive. However, also sometimes an indicator of homework.

So, if the ultimate goal is simply to have a solution, I will often supply one even if it does not adhere to the requestor's request for type of command.

Sorry, was not meant as offense at all - more an excuse for my bad awk solution which needed a little sed tweak in the end.
Overall I am glad you others tend to use several tools in combination to achieve the solution since I was trying out a lot to get it into 1 awk solution and didn't made it
I thought not of homework but more of a challenge. I was usually around in Tek-Tips Forums before I came here and people often asked how would this be written in awk or in sed or, whatever.
