parent process in unix

hello

i am not a unix programmer but i need to solve a particular problem using unix.

suppose i have a user XYZ logged on to a system called ABC. i want to get the parent process id for the user and kill it

i am using
ps -ef | grep XYZ | grep ABC

it returns me all the processes for user XYZ on system ABC

but i want only parent process so when i kill parent clid gets killed automatically

Thanks in adavnce.

Maybe this example
Code:
ps -fu <username>| grep -iE "ksh|bash|sh"| grep pts\/| awk '{print $2}'| xargs kill

is an alternative.

If you try to get the highest/oldest PPID, you can end up accidentally by init or by sshd etc. which you would not want to kill.
