Redirect just stderr to a file with a timestamp
I'm using below command to redirect stderr to a file but I also want to add timestamp to stderr.out to find out the date / time the error occurred.

ls -ltr 2>>/tmp/stderr.out

try this...it will add the date...

at the end of the program just to concatenate the date and give exit 0. Do u want to execute the command from the prompt or from the program...

Thanks for quick responses, I want to run from the prompt.

if the above command is given separated by | and enclosed within the brackets, then it will write it in the output file
