Mafia,

Here are a few websites that should get you started:

UNIX (General)
http://cm.bell-labs.com/cm/cs/who/dmr/ - Dennis Ritchie's homepage (one of the founders of UNIX). Good information on origin and history of UNIX.

http://docs.rinet.ru:8080/UNIXs/toc.htm

UNIX (Shell Scripting)
http://unix.ittoolbox.com/nav/t.asp?t=393&p=393&h1=393

UNIX (System Admin)
http://www.astro.uni-frankfurt.de/~R...sysadmin.shtml - an extensive collection of system admin links

http://wks.uts.ohio-state.edu/sysadm.../sysadm-1.html

I hope these help!

OSX Darwin unix... not survival of the fittest

While it is true that OSX is built on a UNIX kernel, it is not the same as a most other UNIX variants. It has many differences. You may need to read a few posts here before buying MAC for unix work.

If you are serious about UNIX. I would by a more common version of UNIX (IE. Redhat, FreeBSD, Mandrake,Suse, etc....)

Here are some posts to enlighten you to the OSX "Darwin" version of UNIX.

https://www.unix.com/showthread.php?s...&highlight=OSX

This one exposes the weaknesses of OSX Darwin but it is still a functional, if not expensive limited proprietary version of UNIX.

https://www.unix.com/showthread.php?s...&highlight=OSX

here is the search for all OSX references.

https://www.unix.com/search.php?s=&ac...der=descending

Don't mean to scare you so close to Halloween, but OSX Darwin has many ... well... peculiarities.

I would more fully research before buying it to implement it for UNIX work. A more mainstream UNIX flavor would suit you better, unless you are a MAC-lover already.
