Java Solaris 8 password recovery plz HELP!!!!!

Hello board,

I'm new to Solaris Linux world, trying to learn on my onw, as I notice the windows is a big fraud....

OK let me get to my issue:

I have a SOlaris 8 X86 that I don;t have a password and even the screen is disabled(assuming for the security reasons) I just see a blinking cursor.

I know the OS is fine as the box has an IP and I can ping it and it challange me for a password when I try to SSH in..

I followed all the instruction on how to reset the password such as liging in into a single user mode, and editing /a/etc/shadow and so on.

However, I still can't get in using SSH.

My question is:

Is there a difference between loging in with SSH instead of the system itself ?(as I siad before the screed is disabled). I used "root" with blank password, but it didn;t work.

If so how would I be able to connect thru SSH ? any modifications I need to make in order get in the box ?

I hope i put enough of the issue.

Thank you all for reading my post, and any reply will be higly appreciated.

so maybe root logins are not allowed for root in ssh. you have to check the sshd_config file to allow root access to the box. didn't you have another account for ssh? a normal user that can use "su" to change to root...
