Question crontab

Hello guys,

1 - How do I schedule a job to run every 2 hours using crontab ?
2 - How to delete a file based on the accessed date, eg: delete all files that are created last 8 hours. ?

1. man crontab is your best start for this one it actually isn't too hard to understand.

2. I'm guessing a script for this but I'm not good with those yet.

BSeanD,

1. The field format for the crontab file is:

minutes hours day-of-month month weekday command

I believe that some versions of UNIX (e.g. certain versions of BSD) have a username field between the weekday and command fields.

2. Check out the man page for the "find" command ("man find"). You will want to take a close look at the "atime" and "ctime" options.

I have to be a voice of reason here. This looks like a classic Homework question. They are strictly verbotten per the Site rules.

However, we will help new users if they present a script or offer some thought of their own without asking blatant "How do I do this" type questions.

You have to give us something to work with here. We can't do your work for you or else you won't learn it.

Post an example you have worked on and we will advise.

If your in a hurry and don't have time to do a cron job use the "at" command. Its a once off command but if you need to get something done and haven't got the time to study cron jobs, us this and do a bit of research.

Kelam_Magnus,

Yes I know what your saying but we only pointed him/her in the direction of the information, we didn't spoon feed him/her. Smilie
