How do I set a picture as a destop backdrop. I can't seem to find the directory where the normal ones are kept, and I don't know how to "save as backdrop" either. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

what window manager are you using? and what os
they keep them in differnt places there should be a program you can run that will let you specify what you want as your background

Right click on the desktop and click Configure Desktop.

Thats how we do it in FreeBSD.

We use KDE 3 and it's the same for us too...

Right-click.. Configure Desktop.. Background..

Select a picture (ours are stored in /usr/share/wallpapers/)
