UNIX for Dummies Questions & Answers

I have this code:
#!/bin/sh
awk 'BEGIN
NR == 2
repl[087*] = "PHI"
$4 = repl[$4]
print $0 'dryloop.txt

and this code:
#!/bin/sh
sed -e '1s/\|$/\|COMID\|/g' -e 's/^087.*$/&PHI\|g' hl.dsldryloop > textdry.txt

My code won't work. I want to change the COMID of lines starting with 087 .
this is my sample data

NPANXX|BILLDATE|DIVCODE|COMID|RAO|LIKECODE|BOSS|SORD|STATECODE|TEST
087001|BP01|H|SWBT| |041|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|
087002|BP03|H|SWBT| |042|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|
087003|BP05|H|SWBT| |043|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|
087004|BP07|H|SWBT| |044|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|
087005|BP09|H|SWBT| |045|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|
087006|BP01|H|SWBT| |046|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|
087007|BP03|H|SWBT| |047|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|
087008|BP05|H|SWBT| |048|IMR6|IMSR6|AR|

sed -e '1s/\|$/\|COMID\|/g' -e 's/^090.*$/&CF5857\|/g' -e 's/\(^087.*H\|\)\(....\)\(.*\)/\1PHI\3/g' filename > outfile
this works if COMID has 4 char...

Why is that it didn't create any output file?

plz post the command what you typed...

Sorry myfault but an error appeare it says that the function cannot be parsed

that means some where you missed a single quote or space..
yesterday also you asked similar question right sorry i could't gave you fulll solution..
