yes .. My OS is windows & am using exceed to login onto a unix server. Now i wanna copy text from windows to exceed(Normally in this scenario middle-click works, but its not working when i try to paste it in 'vi' editor. I wonder y ?!

Are you aware that you need to put vi in insert mode by pressing "i" before you can enter (or paste) text into it?

Are you able to paste text into the terminal when it is not running vi? e.g. if you run cat instead?

Yes .. i knw .. I got an alternative solution to this !
Copy the text from windows to gedit & in gedit, highlight the text (Just select the text, don't do copy(ctrl-c)) u wanna copy & in vi use middle-click(In Inset mode). This works !!

Hmm... yes, unfortunately I think there are multiple clipboard standards for X applications... the standard X way was the way you describe where you highlight text causing it to be automatically "copied", and middle-click to paste. Then some apps have an Edit menu with the Windows-style copy and paste options, and in some cases they seem to share the X clipboard, and in some cases they use a separate one.
